measure the length of panel where the stitch is required and multiply it by 2.5 for single needle topstitch.

Example:
Length of seam = 100 cms
Total thread consumption = 100 cms x 2.5 = 250 cms
(Estimated Needle Thread = 250 x 0.25 = 62.5 cms
Estimated Looper Thread = 250 x 0.75 = 187.5 cms)
Add 15% wastage = 250 cms x 1.15 = 287.5 cms or 2.88 metres of thread per seam

for 3 thread overlock, multiply by 14.
